Guarding My Energy

Life can be hectic and sometimes overwhelming.

Life can be hectic and sometimes overwhelming. Not only do you find yourself being pulled from every direction (i.e., work, school, church, volunteering, children/grandchildren schedules, etc.), we end up taking on several responsibilities within that entity. Each one of these major entities contributes to losing your precious energy. If you’ve ever woken up and thought to yourself before you have even gotten out the bed, “I'm so tired; I’m ready to go home”, but you just slept a full eight (8) hours. No amount of sleep will help you if you have so many holes in your life tank through which energy can leak through.

Thereby, you must be aware that your energy is subject to depletion and that you must make it a priority to guard it. You cannot tackle the assignment of guarding your energy lightly. You have to want to protect your energy, not because you should, but because you understand the benefits of protecting and feeding your own energy. The good news is that there are practical steps you can take as you guard your energy.

1. Recognize your emotions.

2. Set clear and firm boundaries.

3. Set aside time that is just for you.

4. Limit your exposure to negativity.

5. Speak positivity (kind words) to yourself.
